Tyvak Lockheed: Tyvak received an investment from Lockheed Martin Ventures which is making a strategic investment in Terran Orbital, Lockheed says Tyvek an expert in nanosatellite design, development, manufacturing, testing and launch.

The press that Lockheed and Tyvak released has one interesting quote for us “Under its Tyvak brand, the company has coordinated a range of missions as varied as high-speed radios to high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payloads.”

What is the Tyvak SAR satellite payload? Tyvak’s website makes it very clear that their payloads are for sale and they’re not interested in selling images or analytics. We know Iceye and Capella Space are selling analytics not “pixels” or payloads and Umbra Lab seems to be following the traditional route of selling “sub-meter” images as a service and no information about their very high-resolution SAR payload or if it is for sale.

The other takeaway from Lockheed’s investment in Tyvak is “old space” is beginning to find “new space” attractive. Keep your eyes open for more investments and acquisitions.
